We recently partnered with The Simple Good for an 8 week experiential learning arts curriculum. Students then had the opportunity to share the Simple Good that they have discovered in the world. Our students presented their final art projects at a showcase hosted at the University of Chicago in front of friends, family, and members of the community.  They chose to highlight the parts of their life that brought them the most joy, ranging from the feeling of peace that one of our students gets when she visits downtown, to another student, Jamie, spoke about her ‘simple good’ being her RBA family.

According to Jamie, “My simple good is love and family because I get a lot of love from my family. My simple good came from connections to my RBA family and friends because we show each other we care and love them.” We are so honored that RBA is such a special part of Jamie’s life, and that our students view the RBA community as a family – which is the type of culture and environment that we have intentionally tried to create for our students.

We were also joined by a guest speaker and Chicago Visual Artist Julian Gilliam who spoke about how our students’ ability to find the simple good in their lives was one step toward them creating a beautiful, fulfilling, and successful future for themselves.  He encouraged our students and all of the attendees to “always think big” – an ethos that we firmly stand behind at RBA!!  We know that RBA would not exist if it wasn’t for hundreds of our supporters rallying behind us as we have dreamed big over the last few years.

In fact, we are currently dreaming of growing our student body for Year 2 which will begin this fall. That means that we are hiring two additional staff positions! We have an open position for Math and Science Teacher and also Humanities Teacher.  Please spread the word to your network about these employment opportunities at RBA and for anyone interested in applying for these roles, please send a cover letter and resume to headofschool@ryanbanksacademy.org.

Have a wonderful week!
