Melaina Prest is a real estate developer and owner of Akasha Development, specializing in mixed use and residential buildings on Chicago’s northside. Driving the move towards conscious and green development, Ms. Prest views development as a vehicle for community transformation. Committed to local action and involvement, she was appointed by Mayor Rahm Emmanuel to SSA (Special Service Area) 21 where she serves as the chair, as well as SSA 31. Alderman Ameya Pawar appointed Ms. Prest to his zoning committee.
Prior to her career in local real estate, Ms. Prest had accomplished law career in private practice with a specialization in healthcare and construction law. Notably, she is former clerk of Hon. Carolyn Quinn, chancery division, Illinois state court.
The Prest family founded the Joseph S. Prest Education Trust which grants scholarships and support to schools in economically underprivileged areas.
